This four-hour online course helps first responders recognize electrical and battery hazards at electric and hybrid vehicle incidents. Participants use vehicle-specific response information and guided scenarios to assess the scene, coordinate their roles, and identify when specialized assistance is needed. A certificate of completion is provided.
Who should attend
Firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, roadside assistance, tow and recovery operators, and supervisors who may respond to EV and hybrid incidents.
What you will learn
- Identify electric and hybrid vehicles and locate the correct emergency response guide or rescue sheet.
- Recognize high-voltage components, damaged conductors, unexpected movement, battery damage, thermal runaway, and possible re-ignition.
- Discuss scene size-up, stabilization, exclusion, communication, and escalation for your assigned role.
- Use vehicle-specific guidance for shutdown considerations, rescue access, towing, and storage without assuming the battery is de-energized.

Online format and completion
Instructor-led online presentation, discussion, and case scenarios. This overview does not include live high-voltage testing, vehicle disassembly, fire suppression practice, or hands-on qualification. Participants receive a certificate of completion.
