Instructor-led training on identifying electrical hazards and selecting safety-related work practices under the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E. Learners work through simulated electrical scenarios to assess hazards and risk, select controls, and plan safer work.
Course length and refresher interval
- Initial course: 16 hours
- Refresher course: 8 hours, at intervals not to exceed three years
The initial course is intended for a first exposure to NFPA 70E. A refresher version is available and required at intervals not to exceed three years.

Learning outcomes
- Identify shock and arc flash hazards, approach boundaries, and relevant training requirements.
- Describe how to establish an electrically safe work condition, use test instruments, and select appropriate protective equipment.
- Analyze simulated electrical work scenarios to identify hazards, assess risk, and determine appropriate controls.
- Evaluate proposed work scenarios and define a safe approach that applies electrically safe work practices and controls to mitigate identified hazards.

Topics include NFPA 70E training requirements, test instruments and portable equipment, electrically safe work conditions, shock and arc flash hazards, approach boundaries, energized work practices, PPE selection, scenario-based risk assessment, and work planning.
Instructor-led discussion, demonstration, and classroom scenario exercises. Primary reference: NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, 2027 edition. Course hours may be documented for continuing education review; acceptance depends on the applicable jurisdiction or organization.
