A two-day advanced course for work involving energized electric vehicle systems and high-voltage batteries. Participants assess electrical hazards, plan energized tasks, apply risk controls and equipment-specific procedures, and respond to electrical incidents.
Course format and prerequisite
Two days in person, including a written theory exam and practical performance assessment. Completion of Level 2 Electric Vehicle High Voltage Technician Certification is required before attending. Participants who meet the assessment criteria receive ElecTrain Level 3 certification; employers determine task-specific authorization.
Who this course is for
Experienced automotive manufacturing and assembly personnel, service technicians, supervisors, engineers, and safety professionals responsible for energized EV or high-voltage battery tasks.
Learning outcomes
- Describe high-voltage battery components and safety features at the cell, module, and battery levels.
- Assess energized vehicle and battery tasks, identify hazards and risks, and select appropriate controls, personal protective equipment, and tools.
- Evaluate electrical scenarios and apply risk assessment and electrical safe work practices to mitigate hazards.
- Describe safe battery handling, storage, and shipment considerations.
- Apply equipment-specific procedures, contact release, and accident response concepts in classroom scenarios and practical assessment.

Assessment and certification
A written theory exam and practical performance assessment evaluate course outcomes. Successful participants receive ElecTrain Level 3 certification. The course does not replace an employer’s task-specific authorization.

Continuing training
ElecTrain recommends an annual online refresher and an in-person recertification every third year. This is a program recommendation, not a required automotive retraining interval under NFPA 70E.
