This two-hour instructor-led course helps personnel recognize electrical contact emergencies, avoid becoming another victim, make safe release decisions, and coordinate immediate care. Participants work through guided workplace and electric vehicle or battery scenarios.
Who should attend
Electrical workers, supervisors, safety personnel, and designated responders who may witness an electrical contact incident. No prerequisite is required.
What the course covers
- Electrical shock hazards, continuing energization, and secondary hazards.
- Scene safety, emergency communication, and safe source isolation before approaching the affected person.
- Limits of assisted release, suitable equipment, qualified personnel, and employer authorization.
- Basic care priorities after safe release and handoff to trained responders.
- Guided scenarios and a short knowledge check.
Annual training and scope
NFPA 70E (2024), 110.4(C)(1), calls for annual refresher training in safe contact release methods for the employees it identifies. This course addresses the subject through discussion and simulated decisions. It does not certify hands-on electrical rescue, first aid, CPR, or AED skills. Employers determine task-specific authorization and align training records with their electrical safety program.
