OSHA and other standards explain what the worker has to do, where a safety program tells the worker how to do it. Lacking or insufficient safety programs can lead to employee injury, lost work, disability, or death. In addition to the harm to employees, the employer would likely be subject to lawsuits.

Documented Expectations and Responsibilities

A properly written safety program provides clear expectations, guidance, and work practices to be utilized by workers on a daily basis, providing the foundation for a healthy safety culture. A fully developed and implemented safety program is only effective if it is properly trained and communicated to the workers that are affected by that program.

Required by NFPA 70E

NFPA 70E article 110.5 requires that “The employer shall implement and document an overall electrical safety program that directs activity appropriate to the risk associated with electrical hazards.”
